Our Story
Amado, a Portuguese word meaning “The Loved Ones.” It was a fitting name when Lilian and Cory Rohrbach decided to open their own establishment to provide an experience to their clientele. An experience that combines the passion for food and drinks with joy felt when seeing guests connecting with their environment in the unique atmosphere of Amado.
Lilian Rohrbach was born in the city of Mogi das Cruzes in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Lilian had early aspirations of a political career which quickly led to the pursuit of law. Lilian graduated from the University of Braz Cubas with a degree in law and was employed by the state attorney’s office in Sao Paulo. During her last year of law school is when she met Cory in her hometown of Mogi when he was the Executive Chef at the Paradise Golf Resort.
Cory Rohrbach was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and spent many years traveling throughout the US, Mexico, and Europe working in various restaurants and hotels. Cory was living in Munich, Germany, and decided it was time for a change. He decided to visit some friends in Brazil, and that led to an eleven-year stay in the country. There Cory’s career took on a new level by opening and managing the culinary operations of Swiss-style service hotels and resorts in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo, and Guarajuba. Most importantly, during these years is when he met the love of his life, Lilian.
From the first day Cory and Lilian met, they have been virtually inseparable. Two years after they first met, their daughter Kylie, named after Australian Chef Kylie Kwong, was born. Their life took on an entirely new meaning. Their drive to create a legacy for their family led them to open their own restaurant in the beach-side village of Praia do Forte. During these years, they were blessed with their second child, Kristoff Ananias, Ananias being a name from Lilian’s father. Also, during this time, Lilian began her studies into liquor, cocktails, and desserts.
Cory and Lilian decided to continue their journey in the United States, where Cory took a position as Executive Chef at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pa. While there, Cory was contacted for a position in Lake Placid, which he accepted, and one year later they decided to break out on their own again with the creation of Amado. Not just a restaurant but an experience combining a unique environment with a creative cuisine driven by Cory’s many years of experience and Lilian’s amazing desserts, cocktails and charm.
